Emulation

Emulation is simply the imitation of something else. In this case I mean the computer's imitation of console/video game systems. There are several emulators on the Internet which include Super Nintendo, Nintnedo, Nintendo 64, Sony Playstation, Genesis Master System, Sega Genesis, Turbo Graphics 16, Game Boy, and several more. The thing I like best about emulation is being able to play the games never released in America such as the Romancing Saga series, Final Fantasy 5, Secret of Mana 2 (Seiken Densetsu 3), and several others. Non-profit programmers write the emulators, hacks for the ROMs (images of the cortridge games), and IPS patches which can translate games such as the ones I have listed. Emulation is still imperfect and is therefore by no means a replacement for the actual console games.
